Submission Guidelines
The Submission period for Volume 5 is now closed.
The submission period for the 2012 issue is from November 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012, for publication in October 2012. Please review the guidelines before submitting your work.
The Delmarva Review is a literary review publishing original short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and short reviews. Compelling writing, in English, from all authors will be considered, regardless of an author’s nationality or residence. We encourage submissions from writers in the Delmarva and Chesapeake region.
We seek great storytelling, memorable poetry and creative nonfiction, exhibiting skillful expression. Send us your best work.
We are also interested in photography or artwork to be considered for the cover or illustration. It should be submitted as a 300 dpi file attachment (.jpg or .tiff). The minimum size is: 6” wide x 9”.
The Delmarva Review is published in a print edition, with a downloadable digital copy, by the Eastern Shore Writers' Association. It is copyrighted, but all rights revert to the author after publication.
We only consider e-mail submissions. Editors review work on a rolling basis, so we encourage early submissions. Authors will hear from the editors no later than April 2012.
Material must be unpublished, though we occasionally invite previously published work with a credit to the original publication. “Unpublished” means work that has not been previously published in print or online in electronic journals, e-zines, or publishing websites. Works posted on personal blogs and websites will be considered on an individual basis. Please note this at the time of submission.
We will consider simultaneous submissions. Please inform us immediately if the work has been accepted elsewhere.
Fiction and nonfiction submissions must be double-spaced and formatted in a 12-point font. Please number the pages of prose submissions. Poetry should be single-spaced. Send multiple poems (up to 6) in one attachment.
The author’s name, mailing address, phone, and e-mail address, followed by the genre, and word count (for prose) should be included in a cover sheet of the attached file.
If your work is selected, payment will be two contributor’s copies of the publication. You will also receive a discount on multiple orders of the issue.
We consider unpublished material in the following categories:
Poetry - up to 6 poems, no more than 50 lines each
Short Stories - up to 5,000 words
Short Short Stories - up to 1,500 words (including flash fiction)
Creative Nonfiction - up to 3,000 words
Please limit your submissions to one short story or nonfiction piece, two “flash” or short short stories, or six poems per submission period.
